The Crew Cut
Crewroom HIIT you with a new training session
Each month our intrepid store managers, Emily and Tiina, have been testing out fitness sessions and classes in and around London to see what’s new and what works.
This week, the fitness duo will be launching their very own HIIT class here at the Crewroom Hub on Putney Embankment.
With a background in Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Science, Emily, our Putney Store Manager is joining forces with Tiina, Northcote Store Manager and Personal Trainer, to bring you a lean muscle workout with their high intensity interval training.
The first session starts tonight at 7.15pm and will be held each Wednesday evening at the same time. The session will involve intense plyometrics to increase heart rate and fat burning followed by resistance circuits to build lean muscle.
The first session is FREE so if you’re in the area, pop along and get your first ‘HIIT’ at no charge!
Anna travels beyond her back gate
Adventurer and Crewroom Ambassador, Anna McNuff, has only been back from her epic NZ cross country run for a few months but she’s already got itchy feet and has just headed off on her next adventure to…who knows where!
With her backpack and sleeping bag, Anna is currently heading towards Harwich to catch a ferry, European destination currently unknown. Instead of meticulously planning her trip as she’s always done she’s leaving it up to her social followers to decide where she ends up next.
As Anna describe it, this is an “unplanned, unstructured, social media driven, flying-by-the-seat-of-my-pants adventure”.
Her aim is that 90% of her journey will be human powered, mostly walking, with a spot of hitchhiking and a ferry ride – planes are out of the equation and will only be used to fly back at the end of her adventure which finishes on 13th March.
In January we packed Anna off with a bag of new Crewroom kit. “The Shackleton Jacket is waiting in the closet for use on the adventure - for which it will be perfecto and snuggly,” Anna told us. We’re glad we could help Anna and everyone here at Crewroom will be tuned in to follow you as you make your way through Europe. We can’t wait to see where you end up.
Training camp fundamentals
Easter is only a month away and many of you rowers out there will be heading off on training camp both home and away. With a week full of rowing, rowing and more rowing you’ll be working up a sweat so making sure you take a good stash of clean kit will be a welcome addition to your kit bag for both you and everyone around you!
To help you prepare, here’s our essential shopping list and, if you use the code below, you can make some great savings too.
Run to the beat
Marathon season is fast approaching and we know that motivating yourself to train during the winter months can be hard so here at Crewroom we’ve compiled a list of tunes to lift your spirits and get your energy levels pumping.
We’ve just launched our own Spotify playlist and will be adding tunes that we love and which motivate our own team to workout.
So whether a bit of 'Uptown Funk' will get those legs moving or a bit of 80’s cheese, we’ll have something for everyone. Just search for The Crewroom Workout Mix and get your groove on.
We're on the road again
Jordanne and her events team are filling up the van with plenty of stock and will be hitting the road to visit an event near you. Sadly adverse weather conditions meant that the shiny Crewroom truck didn’t make it as far as Henley 4’s and 8’s last weekend but look out for us at the following events over the next few weeks:
Hammersmith Head: 20th February
Oxford Torpids: 23rd to 27th February
Reading University Head: 27th February
WEHoRR: 5th March
Kingston Head: 12th March
A new year and new possibilities
2016 has arrived and, like many of you, we're looking ahead to a new year and new possibilities here at Crewroom. Similarly, we've taken time to reflect on the year gone by which has seen some huge developments which have been both incredibly exciting and, if we¹re honest, incredibly hard work.
As many of you know, Crewroom originally opened its doors as a juice bar selling JL Rowing kit from its basement. Over the years we've worked closely with JL and our customers to continually design new products, specifically for our northern European climate, and it's something we do to this day. 2016 is going to be a particularly exciting year for us in the run up to Rio and, along with JL, we'll be supporting our elite athletes all the way.
2013 was a turning point for Crewroom when we took the plunge and embarked on our vision of creating our own Crewroom retail brand. The day before the annual Boat Race we moved to new premises on the banks of the river in Putney and recreated the early days of the juice bar but, thankfully, without the headache of fixing broken juice machines! Our little riverside store started to see not only rowers coming in to buy kit, but also joggers, walkers and people who generally enjoyed the outdoors.
So we began to wonder - would people who don't wear wellies with spandex like to buy our product? The next step was forging a relationship with the London College of Fashion and taking on our first design team who got stuck into designing our first retail range.
After much deliberation we decided to test a pop-up on the high street. Late one night in October 2014 we fitted-out the old Fat Face store in Putney using scaffolding from the original juice bar, displayed our new products and opened doors to the public the next morning. To our relief the answer was yes, people did want to buy our products! So we took all the invaluable experience, feedback and knowledge to make one giant leap and, in summer 2015, Crewroom finally arrived on the high street in not one, but two retail stores!
2015 has been a huge year for us. We're passionate about our heritage and our vision so we're looking forward to 2016 and all the exciting opportunities and challenges ahead.
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers who've joined us on the journey so far. Your enthusiasm for the brand and support really has been instrumental in getting us to where we are today. We hope you'll stay with us for the next chapter in our adventure and wish you all the very best for 2016!
