The Crew Cut

It’s one of Crewroom’s most popular events of the year, it’s only at our Putney Embankment store, and it’s your big chance to snap up some amazing bargains with discounts of up to 80 per cent. Did you say 80? Get a note in your diary for tomorrow, Friday, October 2, when our doors open at 9am for our blockbuster Sample Sale. Kit will be flying off the shelves on a strictly first-come-first-served basis, and doors close at 7pm. We’ve lots of stock this year due to the growth of the brand so the sale will spill into Saturday, too, from 9am. With sports seasons starting, and our sale being ideal for students and all you parents clothing your kids, this gives you the chance to fill your boots with winter kit, and features our jackets, base layers, leggings, shorts and tops. These are pre-full production samples and excess stock of prototypes from the factory, otherwise normal Crewroom gear. Get here early!

It only lived for eight months, but our experimental Pop-Up Shop at the Putney Exchange Shopping Centre may soon win us an award. Crewroom was delighted to open a pop-up store there last October (pictured below how it used to be) and it proved such a success that our friends at the Exchange have now entered us in the prestigious MAPIC Awards, which recognise excellence in the international retail property market. Whatever the outcome, we’re already winners – because we’ve closed down the Pop-Up and topped it up with a fully-fledged store! Come and see us in Unit 28 in the Putney Exchange, on Putney High Street, (postcode SW15 1TW). We’re right on the corner of Putney High Street and Lacy Road.

In Denmark, where winter temperatures can plunge to minus 13 degrees C, and snowstorms in April have been known, staying “hyggle” is very important. Roughly translated, a variation of the Danish word means warm, cosy and snug. That’s why we’ve named our new continental gilet The Hyggle (rrp £89), because it’ll keep you brilliantly cosy and snug in the somewhat milder British winter and spring next year. Now available in all our three stores, the Crewroom Hyggle Gilet, which comes in black and navy and in all sizes from XS to XL, is a highly-technical garment with a Pertex quantum shell and an eco 40g Primaloft filling front and back, to keep your core and kidneys warm. The side panels are made from the fleece fabric from our top-selling North west hoodie range. So when your core needs a little bit more, wriggle into a Hyggle!

Crewroom's new Northcote Road store manager Tiina Mielonen arrives in Nappy Valley with a wealth of experience of dealing with children – in her last job her customers included the families of footballer David Beckham, actress Sienna Miller and pop star Lily Allen. Tiina, who celebrates her 29th birthday next Thursday, is originally from a small town near Helsinki in Finland, and she has just qualified as a Personal Trainer. She enjoys mountaineering and is also a dedicated runner. "I run home seven miles from the shop on most evenings which helps keep me fit,” she says. Later this month, Tiina (pictured above, left, climbing Ben Nevis with her friend, Anne, last year) is competing in the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon on Sunday October 11, and is hoping to beat her personal best time of 2hr 8 minutes. “Quite a few of our customers at Crewroom are runners themselves,” adds Tiina, “so I guess it helps that I, too, am a keen runner.”

Being experts in all things to do with local fitness, Team Crewroom believe in leading by example, which is why all our staff were out and about last month promoting our Focus on Fitness campaign. We had fun with Crewroom Ambassador, the awesome Anna McNuff, who led a circuits session for Team Crewroom (pictured above, L-R, Tiina Mielonen, Emily Carpenter, Anna McNuff, and Jordanne Hoesli-Atkins) at the foot of London’s Tower Bridge. (It was a breeze for super-fit Anna though. Her last long run was ... the full length of New Zealand!).
