The Crew Cut
Ambassador Anna conquers NZ
It took her 148 days (that's five and half months) of running an average of 15 to 20 miles a day, but that didn't put off awesome Crewroom Ambassador Anna McNuff from running the entire length of New Zealand.
In all, amazing Anna clocked up 1,911 miles. During her epic journey, she also ran NINE marathons on individual days! And on her last day, which ended tearfully as emotions ran high, she clocked a staggering 32 miles.
"It was the most ambitious thing I've ever done but the one thing it's taught me is that you should never be nervous about a challenge," said Anna. "Just start things even if they scare you witless. Into the breach!"
Now Anna, who raised over £6,000 for children, is back in the UK, writing a book about her adventure and touring Britain as an inspirational public speaker. To book her, visit www.annamcnuff.com.
You can also follow Anna on Facebook at www.facebook.com/AMcNuff and on Twitter: @AnnaMcNuff.
High-flyer Emily's on cloud nine
Sport, exercise and rehabilitation science graduate Emily Carpenter (above) was on Cloud Nine when she landed her first full-time job after university – as manager of Crewroom’s new flagship store at the Putney Exchange.
Emily started her career with the retail and licensing department at IMG, where she found out what happened behind the sales and tennis scene at the Wimbledon Shop.
Before starting work at Crewroom this month, she treated herself to a holiday in the clouds – trekking up a 7,000-foot mountain in Indonesia.
Emily flew 4,000 miles to join 10 friends on the epic climbing trip – and she made sure she took her Crewroom Northwest Hoodie with her to keep warm on the summit.
“Mount Bromo is a volcano and one of the highest peaks in Indonesia, which is on the Equator, so temperatures were high into the 30s,” said Emily.
“We climbed at night to see the sunset which made it quite cold, so I had my Crewroom kit on. I wore my Northwest Hoodie and my No Fuss Leggings to climb up the active volcano.”
As Emily ascended Mount Bromo, on the region’s 10km-wide Tengger Massif, fertile rice-terraces gave way to a blanket of lava sands and the peak itself trailed a wisp of volcanic smoke. Wow!
Originally from Fulham, west London, Emily, who’s a keen tennis player, says Roger Federer is her all-time sports idol. “I think he’s got sportsmanship down to a tee,” she says. “He’s a graceful winner and also a graceful loser."
Emily is now busy running our Putney store, so do pop in and she’ll be pleased to show you around. Find us at Unit 28, in the Putney Exchange, on Putney High Street SW15 1TW, on the corner of Putney High Street and Lacy Road.
For the full range of Crewroom kit, check out our other two stores, at Crewroom HQ, The Embankment Studios on Putney Embankment, SW15 1LB, and in Clapham at 79 Northcote Road, SW11 6PJ.
We're on the road again!
The Crewroom truck is hitting the road again this month to visit a string of top sporting events where you you'll be able to snap up our award-winning kit.
We're spending four days in Belgium at the World Rowing Masters from September 10 to 13, and during the following week you'll catch us at the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in London from September 16 to 20.
On Tuesday 29 September at 6pm, there's your last chance of the season to do some business working combined with stand-up paddleboarding at our Get Fit For Business evening based at Crewroom on Putney Embankment. The event is supported by Wandsworth Chamber of Commons and paddleboard company Active360.
See you there!
Focus on fitness
As well as being famous for their award-winning sports kit, the team at Crewroom are also fast becoming the "go-to" experts on all local fitness activities and expertise.
So as part of their research into the local fitness market, all Crewroom employees have been recruited into "Focus on Fitness" month (September), led by our Sales Director and former elite rower Baz Moffat.
A rigorous programme of get-fit classes, runs and expeditions is planned, including "warrior training", a Project Awesome trip, paddleboarding, yoga, and a 5k race.
"We are the new centre of knowledge on local fitness activity and contacts, so it's only right that Crewroom staff all get out and about and join in," says Baz. "All our shop teams have their finger on the pulse of what's hot in the fitness world."
Final call for Putney's inspirational people
When it comes to finding an inspirational person, is there someone you can think of who immediately springs to mind? If so, then now is the time to nominate them in the final call of a community-focused initiative launched this summer.
Putney Exchange Shopping Centre in SW15 is on the lookout for inspirational people who live and work in Putney, as part of its continuing 25th anniversary activities.
The ‘Putney’s Inspirational People’ campaign aims to recognise people who are inspiring others and whose achievements are making a difference in the SW15 community.
Centre Manager Anne Partridge says: “Putney Exchange has been part of the community for 25 years. It's now time to turn the spotlight onto local people who are making a difference in the Putney community.”
Putney Exchange Shopping Centre was inspired to launch the search for local heroes by Putney rower and Crewroom Ambassador Jess Eddie, who has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Olympic Games in Rio next year. The shopping centre has generously sponsored her with her own single scull boat to enhance her training programme and improve her chances of winning.
For more details on the campaign and to follow our Jess's story, visit www.PutneyExchange.co.uk. Here's a cut-out of Jess, above, and also the real Jess wearing her favourite top - Crewroom's Northwest Hoodie!
Starts today, for just four weeks, don't miss out!
